Week 2 · Lesson 2.4 · 21 min
Where They Already Are
Find the actual rooms your people already talk in, and learn how to enter as a human instead of as an affiliate announcement.
You don't need to build a room from scratch when your people are already talking in places you've been too salesy to enter properly.
The internet isn't empty. That's the good news and the humbling news. While you've been staring at your own grid wondering why nobody is bonding with a product photo, your people have been in comment sections, groups, Discords, hashtags, live chats, and the replies under some creator you half-follow.
FIND includes geography. Not countries. Rooms.
A room is anywhere a conversation already has a temperature. A Facebook group with in-jokes. A creator's comment section where the same twelve people talk to each other. A hashtag that is still used by humans. A Reddit thread. A local community page. A quiet corner of TikTok where people stitch their real kitchens.
Your job this week isn't to launch a room. Your job is to walk into three that already exist, and become a person in them.
The rooms, practically
You don't need all of these. You need three you can actually stand.
Pages and creators. Not to copy. To listen. Whose audience already talks like your tribe. Read fifty comments. Who is funny. Who is hurting. Who is bored of being sold to. Follow the people in the comments, not only the person on the stage.
Groups. Facebook still has them. Some are feral. Some are kind. Some are secretly marketplaces pretending to be circles. Read the rules. Read a month of posts without posting. Feel whether you'd stay if you weren't working.
Comment sections. Under tarot accounts, parenting accounts, night-shift memes, book pages, grief pages. Comments are where tribe language lives. Hashtags are a street sign. Comments are the kitchen.
Hashtags. Use them as doors, not as billboards. Search a tag. Ignore the branded posts. Find the amateur ones. That's where people are asking things.
Communities off the feed. Discord, WhatsApp groups you are legitimately part of, forums, even email lists with reply-all cultures. If your people are older, they may be in places the gurus called dead. Dead often means less infested.
Forced versus human
Hashtag as billboard versus hashtag as door
Forced
Posted a product shot with twelve tags: #spiritualawakening #tarotreader #bosslady #crystals #manifestation #moonmagic #affiliate #witchyvibes and a few more I copied from a reel. Then I wondered why only other affiliates liked it.
Human
Searched a tag real people use when they can't sleep. Read twenty posts. Left two comments that were about their night, not my shop. Followed one woman because her caption sounded like my sister. Didn't tag anything. Went to bed.
Why it feels different
Billboard hashtags attract other billboards. Door hashtags put you in a corridor where someone is actually talking. You can't shortcut belonging with a tag stack. You can only walk in.
How to enter a room without making it about the shop
There is a sequence. It isn't glamorous. It works.
- 1Lurk long enough to learn the temperature. What do they laugh at. What gets ignored. What gets piled on. What is banned, officially and unofficially.
- 2Contribute one thing that would still make sense if your affiliate number didn't exist. A useful answer. A joke that belongs. A small recognition.
- 3Use their language, not guru language, unless their language is already guru language and you're willing to live there.
- 4Don't introduce your shop in the same week you arrived, unless someone directly asks what you do and you can answer in one honest sentence.
- 5Come back. Once is a leaflet. Three times, you're a person.
First night in the group
A Facebook group called Cards at the Kitchen Table. Someone has asked whether a cheap deck is "real enough" or they should wait until they can afford a "proper" one.
Moonbeam: The cheap one is real enough. I learnt on a deck that had a bent corner and a tea stain. If it helps you hear yourself, it's doing the job. You can always get a prettier one later, and you're allowed to love the stained one forever.
Them: I needed that. I keep seeing adverts that make it look like you start with a velvet altar or you are doing it wrong.
Moonbeam: Velvet is optional. Kettle is not. Welcome in.
No link. No "I happen to know a shop". No "as an affiliate". The Moonbeam was useful, specific, and then quiet. That's entry.
Forced versus human
Affiliate announcement versus human entry
Forced
Hey gorgeous souls! Just joined this group. I'm a proud MoonMagicx Moonbeam and I'm here to serve. If anyone needs a deck, journal or crystal kit I can help you choose. So excited to add value. What is everyone working on this moon cycle?
Human
I've been reading for a week and laughing at the tea-stain posts. Tonight I actually have something useful: if you're choosing a first deck, big pip cards are easier when you're tired. That's all. Carry on.
Why it feels different
The first one arrives with a trolley. The second one arrives with a plate of something to share and doesn't expect a round of applause. Rooms promote the second person without being asked, because they made life easier.
You can have no followers and still enter a room
This is where people freeze. "I have 40 followers. Why would I comment on a page with 80,000." Because you're not applying for a job as their equal in status. You're speaking to one person in the comments who said something true.
Followers are a scoreboard from a different game. Rooms run on whether you made someone feel less alone in a thread. You can do that with eleven followers and a decent sentence.
Jonah does most of his FIND in other people's comment sections. He doesn't have a big account. He has a reputation among a few dozen night people who look for his name. That's a tribe. It's already more of a business than a thousand empty followers, and we haven't even talked about selling yet.
Bee goes where the messy kitchens are. She doesn't ask permission of the algorithm. She talks, specifically, to the person who just said they burnt the soup and pulled the Tower.
Priya lurks in messy-morning groups and only speaks when someone is being sold a fantasy of perfect motherhood with a crystal on top. Her people find her because she's the one who says the quiet rude true thing, kindly.
Elise is practising walking into rooms without the scripted intro. It feels like arriving at a party without the host's badge. That feeling is withdrawal from a system, not evidence she's doing it wrong.
Do this
Pick three rooms and stand in them
- 1From your tribe map, choose three rooms you can open today: a page, a group, a hashtag, a creator's comments, a Discord, a community. Write them in the research-log.
- 2For each room, lurk for fifteen minutes. Write: what they laugh at, what they worry about, what they are tired of, what they ask. No usernames harvested. Patterns, not prey.
- 3Leave one genuine comment in each room this week that could only have come from you. No pitching. No "check my bio". No "as an affiliate".
- 4Note how your body felt before you posted the comment and after. If it felt like sneaking a leaflet onto a cafe table, rewrite and try again.
The Week 2 challenge is three rooms, nine comments, ten genuine follows, five unfollows. This lesson is the walking-in. Don't skip the lurking. Lurking isn't laziness. It's manners.
If this is you
“I have no followers”
Good. Nobody is watching you practise. Go to a comment section where your people already talk and leave one specific sentence for one specific person. You're not trying to be discovered by a crowd. You're trying to be recognisable to a human. Followers arrive, if they arrive, because you were in rooms. They don't have to exist first. That's a myth that keeps shy people on the pavement.
You now know that rooms exist, and that you don't need a crowd of your own to enter them. Next we make the research deliberate, without turning humans into a spreadsheet of leads.
Do the work
- Tribe map (not an avatar)
Sarah-who-drinks-lemon-water is not coming. Write down living people.
- Three rooms — research log
FIND happens in actual rooms, not on a page. Go and sit in them.
